The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 新晋导演的首作总是充满沉淀下来的味道，挺喜欢这种现实主义的电影，就像《小伟》，不同的是少了魔幻现实主义的的恶心味道，让人看下来感觉电影有种贴近现实感情的清淡，就像女主角身上的那种白开水的气质；人离了酒不会死，离了白开水肯定活不了。
对于帮派身份的展示中不再体现任何浪漫化、史诗化的气质，从酒池肉林和血流如注之间撕开一道豁口。
有时候童话很美好，但现实很残酷。
