The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 除了布景，该版本麦克白在女巫的两个“文字游戏”被揭开之后并未呈现出丝毫动摇，而是一条道走到黑似的面对任何结局。这已经是不小的改动了。
稍有不满的是A24的基因有点过重，感觉科恩这次多少有点往回看了，充盈着属于电影这一媒介的古典气息，视听上有一种在看德莱叶等人的感觉，仿佛是故意要和这个时代格格不入
这光影布景无敌，科恩的极简式改编。欧洲的文学巨著却启用黑人演员，也算大胆尝试了。
【8】一个被迷信吞噬后遭受良心谴责和复仇报应的故事，这辈子第一次看莎剧改编的电影，感受很神奇，忙着感叹画面的干净漂亮，也适应了半天这种相当风格化的再演绎，算是把心理挣扎拍得淋漓尽致，没什么大毛病，教科书级精致。
很多独白的台词能接受的话便会发现如诗一般美
终于看了浸入式戏剧Sleep No More原型的莎士比亚剧《麦克白》的故事，不过黑白片+1.19:1的画面比例让影帝影后失色不少。还是重新发行成全彩+全屏吧！听说这个弑君故事还有一个2015年的电影版，Michael Fassbender+ Marion Cotillard主演。
在我这种没有艺术细胞的人眼中，就是个不太有意思的舞台剧，主角刺杀国王夺权然后被推翻的故事，带了点魔幻色彩。
【明天，明天，再一个明天，日子一天天过，直到时间尽头，我们所有的昨天，不过是替傻子们点亮了通往死亡的路，熄灭吧，短暂的烛光。】悲剧。
视觉设计上的独树一格，戏剧情节上的昏昏欲睡。

画面和风格很不错，但是情节方面可能只适合不怎么熟悉《麦克白》的观众。
这部已经用了这样的主创，还是不得要领。

如果剥去了莎翁的名号，这也就是一个普通的寓言故事，如果再除去科恩卖力表现的镜头，这也就是个一无是处的寓言故事
剧情都知道，看的就是摄影美学，有几幕的光影构图真的绝了。虽然是电影，但更像在看舞台剧，也幸好没去电影院看，这种古英文没有字幕的确很难懂。
印象最深的是Macbeth去刺杀Duncan那场戏：拱顶的影子在地上排列整齐，仿佛正等人去搅乱，M便踏上它，一步步向前，光影在他脸上逐次闪过——看啊，悬垂的匕首就在前方！就像我手中的这把。握住
这是话剧吗？科恩为什么拍莎士比亚？没必要拍。
有几个场景我特别喜欢，但是没有英文字幕的情况下看太吃力了。
